About herewise

herewise pulls together the public information that's normally scattered across council websites, register searches and separate government datasets, and puts it in one place — organised by postcode, not by which department happens to publish it.

What it's for

Researching an area before you move. See planning activity, crime trends, school ratings, flood risk, recent sale prices and rent levels for any postcode — the kind of picture that used to take a dozen separate searches to piece together.

Understanding the planning rules that apply to a place. Planning decisions and council policy shape what can and can't be built nearby — herewise surfaces the applications, decisions and consultations that explain why an area looks (or is about to look) the way it does.

Seeing what's actually happening right now. New planning applications, committee decisions and council spending near you, kept up to date rather than requiring a fresh search of the council's own systems each time.

A note on accuracy

herewise aggregates data from public sources — council registers, the Police, the Department for Education, HM Land Registry, the Environment Agency and the Office for National Statistics, among others. Some figures (like sale-price estimates) are index-based approximations, not formal valuations. See a borough's Sources page (e.g. Croydon's) for exactly where its data comes from and how it's licensed.
